Heart Palpitations and Fainting

For the last couple of years, I've had a weird feeling with my heart.
I never thought anything of it because I had always been active.
One night, while watching a movie with my girlfriend, she had her head
on my chest and said that my heart sounded "weird". Just before she
said that, I had that weird feeling in my heart. She said that it
sounds like someone was squeezing ketchup packet.
Now, when this happens, I feel a shortness in breath and my heart
"flutters". I had gone to a doctor after this episode about it and
she said that she can't find anything wrong. I told her my signs and
told her that it didn't hurt, it just felt weird.
Now, for the past four months, I had near fainting episodes. I was
worried about the fainting and not falling over that I hadn't noticed
if it was accompanied by the palpitations. I can explain away the
first two and MAYBE the last one. The first one was because I hadn't
eaten for about 6 hours and it was busy at work, (I work at a
bookstore). The second was becuase I was REAL sick. Then last night,
my back was a little sore so I squatted down to stretch it out some.
When I stood up, all was ok until I arched back some. Then, my vision
started getting dark and I could feel my head getting numb from the
base almost all the way to the top. I was cognizant enough to reach
out and hold onto a book shelf so that wouldn't fall over. It only
lasted for 45 seconds or so, but it felt MUCH longer.
Is this something that I should really be scared of? Or was it just
that I got up too fast?
Thank you for your time.
Doug
