Here are the results:
TC=153
HDL=29
TRG=117
LDL=100
non-HDL=124
TC/HDL=5.3
GLU=96
I am 49 year old white male. Non-smoker. Somewhat
sedentary. Good health so far
Weight is 200lbs. I should "probably" weigh 180 lbs for
my frame size.
I take 20 mg simvastatin and 10 mg lisinopril daily.
Are these results decent? Out of whack?
The is no evidence that taking a statin for primary prevention has a positive
effect on all cause mortality. As cholesterol decreases, all cause mortality
goes up and and as cholesterol increases all cause mortality goes down. People
with a cholesterol of 300 are less likely to die from all causes than someone
with a cholesterol of 150.
The problem that stands out is HDL, it's low. Higher is better. Niacin, low
carbing, eliminating trans-fats, exercise, weight loss, and lower glycemic diets
all increase HDL.
mortality was confirmed by a recent Canadian study. Even the AHA
concedes Omega 3 have merit
