Description: The Cardiologist is a staff member of the Cardiology
Services Division of the Clinical Medicine Department.
Job Description:
The responsibilities are divided between the out patient cardiology
clinics (30-40% of the time), cardiovascular unit (30-40% of the time),
and in patient services (approx. 25% of the time). They will be expected
to perform all basic aspects of general cardiology, including the
management of patients with unstable angina and acute coronary syndromes,
congestive heart failure, valve disease, and basic arrhythmia problems.
In addition to these basic functions, they will be expected to interpret
EKG's, transthoracic echo Doppler studies, holter monitors, stress tests
including both exercise and pharmacological stress tests. He may request
privileges to perform specialized echo doppler procedures including
transoesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography and contract
echo.
He will also be expected to perform/interpret transoesophegeal studies
and stress echoes and provide expert guidance to junior staff involved
with stress testing patients. He will work under the professional
supervision of the Chief of Cardiology Services Division, and he must
actively participate in all the clinical activities of the division as
well as the educational, quality assurance and peer review activities.
Requirements:
1. Graduation from an approved medical school.
2. Completion of residency training in internal medicine in a recognized
residency training program.
3. American Board of Internal Medicine Certification or equivalent (e.g.,
MRCP).
4. Successful completion of a fellowship training in cardiology in a
recognized training program.
5. American Board of Medicine Subspecialty Cardiovascular Diseases. In
the U.K. system, must have completed a minimum of 4 years training in
cardiology following qualification in internal medicine.
6. Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in his home country and
must be eligible for a license to practice as a specialist in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia.
7. Minimum of two years practice in the field of cardiology, particularly
echocardiography including performance of transoesophageal and stress
echo, and/or nuclear cardiology. Must produce proof of this expertise,
including current privileging.
8. Excellent command of verbal and written English and well as ability to
adjust to working in a group practice of cardiology in an industrial
environment. *Must be able to work as a team member*.
