If the needle hit a blood vessel (happens a lot), you could get some blood
accumulation in the tissues which makes the area sore and hard to open
widely for a day or two. Otherwise, pain from the injection (after the
first 5 seconds) is not really something we see.

Patients with parafunctional muscle activity get pain and limited opening
like you describe a lot, though.
