If you think the endodontist can get it off, why not have the
endodontist remove the crown, and then have the dentist recement it?
Remember, however, that the force needed to remove a crown can
potentially chip or fracture the tooth.
The purpose of the x-ray is to see whether any decay has developed
under the crown.
