Whatever you do ,,,,,, do NOT call it a Christmas bonus. You will stuck
doing it every year, and become the prixxx the first year you cannot afford
to give more than last year.
We do a Holiday dinner at a nice restaurant with the entire staff and all
their spouses and children. I pick up the tab. It usually occurs after the
first. Small gifts for the staff are usually presented at that time. If
the previous calendar year went very well, and bills are all on time on
January first, I will figure out what I can afford and will give some cash
as well. The cash clearly is not a bonus, but rather a gift of
appreciation. Some years, the cash gift does not occur. We then do annual
performance evaluations in February with salary increases to staff members
who improve and work hard (usually everyone).
