Dr. Joel,

More could not be said than your article concerning the callousness of
people towards animals. Those are the people to be shunned by a human
with any compassion for the helpless creatures in the world. Torture
is torture and anyone watching a blood sport is as bad a person as one
can imagine.
Maybe this is extreme, but mans inhumanity to man extends to the basest
form of the life, but cruelty to animals because there is no punishment
speaks for the man far more than any law could say.
The person that watches a bull fight is as bad as the person killing
the animal. Extreme, perhaps, but feelings for animals are extreme.
They say orphans love animals, in that respect I have to be the
biggest orphan of all.
Our guinea pig just came back from the Vet with a $1400.00 bill, made
well, and was visited each day for the eight days at the Vet, or he
would be lonely. What better gift or lesson can the children receive
that all life is important if in our power to sustain.
There is no reward except tenderness of the heart.
Never to be forgotten are the young girls (15 and 16) who camped out
the anti-cruelty society for days
and fasted to enforce the society to change the method of abolishing
strays from being put in a heap and being burned to being anesthesized
individually.
Who said one person cannot make a difference?
Who said a society can be judged by the way it treats its animals.

Gail
