No. They break above or below the ferrule. A ferrule is a metal ring or
cap that forms encirclement around something (pole, shaft, tooth, etc).
If you don't create a ferrule effect around a tooth with a post, then the
post gets all of the lateral stress from occlusion and transmits it down the
canal space.
