The reasons that an overdenture might be the treatment of choice are
usually the desire to use fewer implants (than a fixed prosthesis would
require, doesn't apply to you) and/or the need to use an acrylic matrix to
attain good cheek and lip support.

I, personally, like one more implant than I need for restorative reasons to
hedge my bets against loss of a fixture, albeit mandibular anterior
implants' success is above 95%.

If a milled or spark-eroded bar is the retention design (a good choice from
the perspective of enhanced stability and function) 4 is the minimum.
Since yours will run from molar to molar 6 is not unreasonable. Is it
overkill? You should obviously discuss this with your surgeon/dentist.
