This OE rule works for me:

Where the message is on sci.med.dentistry newsgroup

and Where the Subject line contains 'Jan' or 'Joel' or 'mercury' or 'amalgam' or
'amalgams'

Mark it as read

Then under View => Current View => select hide read massages

Then add their various positing names under "blocked senders" by opening a post,
right clicking the name after from and select "Block sender".



The above will typically filter out 30-50% of the posts on any given day and
make ones time at s.m.d a lot more enjoyable.
