Agree. I've crowned very few wisdom teeth over the last 26 years and I might have done a root canal in 1 (partial denture abutment).

Is it possible for one root to need "canaling"? Or is it possible the tooth is still cracked in one area?
Not having seen the tooth, I cannot be specific. I would say I doubt it is worth the effort, unless you have a large dental arch, the wisdom tooth has a good tooth to chew against, and the tooth is otherwise in FANTASTIC shape.
