Re: dentalcom.net - smd gateway

I for one would be sorry to see this website go away. AFAIK, there are
very few resources for professionals and fewer for patients. For
professionals, there's Dental Town / Hygiene Town and IDF, which are
advertising driven, by registration only and/or for professionals only.
For patients there's this site, SMD and a few specific groups like
Letsconnect's dental fear board. (I'm sorry Flap, but your blog is
mainly a politically oriented system with a few postings here and there
about dentistry. It's also a one way avenue since users can't post on
forums.)

Usenet feeds are great, IMO, but they?re slated for death. Most ISP's
won't provide newsfeeds and many of the ones that now do are looking at
removing the service. Usenet feeds are bandwidth hogs and the first cost
savings measure an ISP will take is to trim Usenet off their list of
services. Look for yourselves; Comcast, AOL and the big telco's no
longer provide it. The average user has to go and subscribe to a
separate service which will cost them an additional monthly fee. Most
users just won't do this. In fact, most users aren?t even aware that
there is a Usenet! If the consensus is to keep SMD a small feed,
exclusive to only a few, then stop me right here and I?ll back away.
Albeit, 90% of all computer users don?t have a clue as to what NNTP
feeds are and they don?t care. They?d rather use a website and go on
with it. It was my hope that DC would assist SMD, not deter from it.

Somehow, this issue of deleting posts has been intertwined onto this
pointless argument. Flap, for just one minute consider the fact that
Justin was about to be sued because of these posts. Hell, I would have
cut you off much sooner than he did. If you really think it?s so
important to have these Cerec images up somewhere, post them in a
prominent place on your blog.

Justin, I for one would care if you took the site down. Personally, I
thinks its been good and I think its growing.
