No. My brother does have custody of an early 20th century Gibson "A" style mandolin. I tried briefly to play it maybe 30 years ago. Also briefly tried tenor banjo, but as I wasn't in any barbershop quartets I gave it up.
Ukelele in the hands of someone like Shimabukuro is a real instrument, though how common this kind of virtuoso solo playing is (not merely as strummed vocal accompaniment) I don't know.
