Is it a good idea to do 5-6 implants at once...

....as opposed to doing 2-3 at a time?
I am getting 5-6 done through the periodontal program at the dental
school and the oral surgeon/student is planning to do 5-6 implants. It
occurred to me that this may be very traumatic, as I know someone who
got only 2 and THAT was pretty traumatic/painful.
Also, I just had #30 extracted, and while not exactly traumatic, it has
certainly been no picnic. (Hurt for about 2 weeks to diminishing
degrees as time went on; now I have bone slivers coming through that
are no picnic either.)
Anyway, is it common to do 5-6 implants at once when they are needed,
or is better to do 2-3 at once? The dental schools seem to want to do
them all at once, but I wonder if this just benefits them, for their
"quotas" or if it benefits the patient?
Do they generally give you a general anaesthetic to do this, or are you
conscious of the pain the whole time? How bad does it hurt after
getting 5-6 implants? Will I be able to work or will I need to take
time off for a week or more?
I realize I should have asked these questions of my oral
surgeon/student, and probably will, but I don't see him again for 2
weeks and I forgot to ask at my appt..
Thanks for your advice/info.
