Dental Herb Company

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a Dental Hygienist (practiced for 7 years) and a former Product
Manager with a major dental manufacturer. I have been out of "the
business" for the past three years because I have been living in
Europe. Today my husband, age 45 y/o, went in for a routine prophy and
was told that his soft tissue surrounding his third molars had pocket
depths of up to 5 mm. (This is nothing new and he has never had an
issue with inflammation or pain - the third molars have been evaluated
by an oral surgeon who advised leave them as is.) The dental hygieist
advised him that the practice is endorsing the use of a product called
"Tooth and Guns Tonic" by the Dental Herb Company. From what I can see
this product is not approved by the ADA and there is no phone number on
the bottle. I have apprehensions about him using this product and even
more apprehensions about a practice that "sells" this product. He was
not advised how much this cost or if it would be submitted to his
insurance. He was basically told nothing, except he should use it. I am
steaming at the lack of information provided by the practice and the
lack of information on the web. Does anyone know anything about this
company, the products or how much a practice would charge for this? The
whole thing sounds fishy to me. Maybe I am old-fashioned, but in my day
I would NEVER suggest anything that wasn't approved by the ADA. I would
appreciate any comments. Thanks in advance.

I can't say anything about that particular product but the most famous
(or infamous) one you'll find around is Dr. Christopher's. It contains
white oak bark, comfrey root, horsetail grass, lobelia, cloves,
peppermint... etc...

Kinda turns your teeth green when you brush with it

Thanks, Billkatz. Are herbal remedies hot right now? Like I said, I am
kind of out of the loop on what is new and popular, but I get the
feeling that this is a "sell it for $50 and keep $25" kind of thing.

I wouldn't call flavored sawdust a remedy.

I dunno, but I reckon the proof of the pudding is in the eating... I'd
probably try it out, just to see if it does have a noticeable effect
(out of sheer curiosity). Then again, I'll try *everything* once

Just an update...Hubby went back to the practice today to pick up a
bite guard and he returned the "Tooth and Gum Tonic". Seems he was
charged $22.00 and was not advised of it...he told them that he won't
use something not approved by the ADA. He will be leaving the practice
shortly. I resent a dentist looking for a fast buck. It makes me
question her ethics.

You are 100% correct. Most often these products are
worthless snake oil sold by dental hucksters.

Post more ..... I like your style (You tell it like it is).
