Nope, not the Al Jolson song, "Swami River."

Journey of a Start Up: In Search of Mastery

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BACKROUND

Since starting dental school in 1992 I followed my passion and that is
dentistry. I truly love it. I would do it as a hobby, if I could. My
goal has always been to excel in the clinical aspect of dentistry. My
journey has taken me to attain the Fellowship in the AGD, complete a
post doctoral Fellowship in Implant Dentistry in Advanced Prosthetics
and Implant Dentistry, and study with great dentists and teachers like
Dawson, Farran, Hornbrook, Strupp, Estep, Christensen, many others and
many more to come.

I always knew my weakness was in business.

So I thought that a Partnership was the perfect solution. All I had to
do was to team up with a dentist to mentor me in the business side of
dentistry.

Unfortunately, that thinking took me from associateship to
associateship; full of empty promises, false expectations, different
practice philosophies, resentment and 9 years of being an associate.

The past 1 year I have spent focusing on honing my case presentation
skills, business organization and marketing knowledge.

As Howard Farran says: no deal is better than a bad deal. So, after
turning away from too many over priced practices and with the
encouragement and support of a good friend I decided to start form
scratch and build my dream practice, my way.

I knew that I could not do it all alone.

A great athlete needs a great coach.

I found him here on Dental Town. The Swami - Dr. Marc Cooper.

After reading his book I decided to join his Mastery of Practice
coaching program. I simply like the way he thinks, and his experience
isnâ??t too shabby either.

This thread is a diary of my journey.

I will share with you my successes and my failures, my epiphanies and
my challenges.

Buckle your seatbelts it will be an interesting ride.

Here we goâ?¦
