Dental Lab's estimate vs. actual price

Before having implants for a bar supported overdenture, I had my
dentist checked for an estimate from the dental lab he uses. The labs
estimate for a bar supported overdenture, including overdenture, bars,
etc was $4500. Now I've completed the implant procedure and returned to
my dentist. Impressions were made and sent to the Lab. The called back
and said the actual cost will be a little over $8500. Quite a
difference from the estimate. The lab said the reason is that instead
of doing one bar as they had assumed, they will have to do two bars. I
have 6 implants. They said one bar will cover the 3 implants on the
left lower side and the other bar will cover 3 lower right implants and
the two bars will meet in the middle front of my mount. Thus the more
than 100% increase over the estimate. I thought a bar was actually a
series of small, multiple bars between each implant. Thougts?
