numbness after wisdom teeth extraction

I had all 4 extracted last month. Now over 3 weeks after the surgery
and the lower part of my mouth is still a bit numb. I was concerend
that a nerve was severed/damaged, however, the doctor said that it's
fine and that it just takes some people longer to recover. He even
poked the numbed area with his surgery knife and asked if I felt it,
which I did. Does it really take that long to recover? I may be
panicking over nothing, but woudl still like a second opinion.
