Comment. Fairly old decision. 1974.

Apparently the 1974 FDA panel decision has been overturned. Thimerosal
has been used for decades in contact lens solutions.

Thimerosal-free solutions are available for sensitive individuals.

"Bacteriostatic action can be reversed..." Please explain under what
conditions this may occur.

Thanks.
A little check: Thimerosal is no longer used in most brands of
contact lens solution due to the fact that about 10% of users showed an
allergic reaction. Please excuse my presumption.

*"Products for sensitive eyes* help people who have allergic reactions
to contact lens solutions. These allergies can crop up even you've been
using the same products for years without difficulty. Symptoms may
include itching, tearing, foreign body sensation, burning, redness and
discharge. It's important to see your eye doctor if you're experiencing
these symptoms, as they can have many causes.

A preservative called thimerosal was found to cause problems in about
10% of patients, so most brands do not use it nowadays. Thimerosal-free
saline is usually marked "for sensitive eyes."
