About a couple of months ago my son said my breath smelled "FOUL"..I
told him I had brushed but that I had not eaten allday..he told me it
still smelled...At that time I also realized my left ear was achy....as
was my jaw...

Two weeks later I went to the Dentist and had the filling in my bottom,
left sided last Molar changed from Metal to White filling. Almost 1
week to that day my jaw swelled and the pain kept me up all night!!!

I grabbed my Amoxycilline 500mg and ran to the Dentist. He took an
xray and saw "*** pockets"...Immediately he drilled the new filling
out...poked a "pin" and broke up the pockets and gave me pain killers
and told me to take the antibiotics...

He left it "open" to drain and told me that when I eat to put cotton in
it which I have done...
Now it is almost 3 weeks later...I stopped the antibiotics two days ago
and within 1 day of doing so my jaw is starting to swell again so I
went right back on them...The surrounding gum is swollen also and this
is 4th of July weekend and he cant see me till Wed July 5th...

I remember years ago "cloves" or a clove byproduct being put in another
tooth of mine that had a root canal and I was reading the postings
where you mentioned the wax to fill the filling to protect the tooth
while eating..

I am lost. I dont know what to do..Dont want to take antibiotics
forever...
I called my Health Insurance and they say I cant change dentists since
he was the original Dr and has to rectify the problem.

Also, I am scheduled to fly out on the 10th to the East Coast to be
with my elderly mom for a medical procedure. I need to resolve this
and get on with my life.

I rinse with warm salt water....and also peroxide....brush....put
cotton in it when I eat.

Any suggestions? What should I buy or do?

Thank you so much!!!!
Athena

Unfortunately if you cannot encourage drainage with warm salt water
rinses your best short-term strategy is to get back on antibiotics. The
tooth should either have a root canal treatment promptly or should be
extracted. There is no excuse for the dentist not being able to handle
an emergency--were plans made for a root canal treatment, either by your
dentist or a specialist?

Thank you Steve for your promt reply!!!!

He made absolutely no mention of a root canal. Dont know if it was
because he wanted all of this to go away first..and then he might have
or what his frame of mind was.
Like I said he did stick that pin in it in the beginning....

I just came home and am dying!!! What between the heat, about 104
degrees here and the pain..also my ear is stuffed..I am just so sick of
this!!!!!!

Add to this the Holiday weekend....Hopefully the antibiotics will kick
in and give me some relief...

Thanks!

Athena
