Gum Pain above upper rear molar

Ive been having a pain off and on for the last few weeks in my upper
rear molar. The gums there are particular sore, and seem to be a little
swollen. The pain goes from slight to intense, sometimes waking me up
in the middle of the night at its worse. I went to the dentist, had
x-rays and nothing was found. What he showed me was were a massive
filling was he had done about 2 years back in that upper rear molar.
The picture showed a large bright white spot as the filling and just
below that you could see a lighter grey area he identified as the root.
There was no obvious trouble signs. The dentist said "Do you think its
possible you could have gotten food in there? Im thinking the problem
is more severe and just want to be through with this pain. The dentist
said "lets just keep a close eye on it now, if it starts hurting again,
we will have another look" Well I cant take this anymore, should I go
to another dentist? This guy has been in pratice for at least 15 years
i think, also serves my mom and dad with no complaints, and has a
really updated office with xrays that appear on his computer screens
etc. The only other thing i can add is I can feel what seems like a
hole in the very back of the tooth, almost underneath, but cant see it.
It may just be the filling hanging over? Im clueless at this point and
just trying to offer and info I can. Ive been taking motrin which does
relieve the pain but at its worse Ive used more than 12 in a day to get
by. All my wisdom teeth were removed maybe 3 years ago without issue.
(Im 27) Please someone offer advice. Thanks in advance.
