Re: How important is using tooth paste?

How about brushing when you wake up? ... With a wet toothbrush or with
fluoride toothpaste. I think the important thing is to get a toothbrush
on your teeth a few times a day.

I can't go to bed without brushing my teeth. I literally can't fall
asleep ... it freaks me out knowing I've left an optimum environment
for the bad bugs in my mouth.

I am a total convert to the idea of bringing toothbrushes with you
everywhere. If I don't get a chance to brush before going to work, I
brush during my first break. I can't brush in a public restroom,
either. It grosses me out. You can brush anywhere, though. Just keep
your toothbrush in a ziplock bag. If you want to make sure your mouth
is really "wet" before you brush, you can put some Biotene gel on your
tongue and spread it around your mouth ... it's OK to swallow.

One good habit is swishing with water after you eat ... you can swallow
or not. This will get rid of the large, easily dislodged particles.

Before bed, I brush with a wet toothbrush for awhile, then I brush with
fluoride toothpaste for two minutes. I'm sure I could swish with a
fluoride rinse instead of using the toothpaste.

In summary, all you need is few soft bristle toothbrushes, floss,
water, and a tube of fluoride toothpaste. If you want to spend more,
you can get some Biotene gel, fluoride rinse, xylitol mints, etc.
