O.K. So does bad oral health CAUSE depression?
Bad oral health may cause depression if the person experiences a loss
of self-esteem and/or feels unable to interact freely with others as a
result of what their teeth look like.
By the same token if a person is depressed all the time, and does not have
bad oral health, he/she may develop bad oral health, because they start to
neglect the things that are associated with maintaining good oral health (eg
brushing and flossing - I believe proper flossing is the main key to good
oral health). In other words they may be too depressed, and start losing
interest on taking proper care of their teeth, gums etc.
