What does it normally cost the dental office per patient (basic
checkup/cleaning)?
Just wondering. Thanks.
It just isn't easy to answer such a question.
One office may take a complete medical history, take your blood pressure, take a complete set of X-rays, chart all existing
restorations, check existing restorations for defects, check
for new cavities, check your periodontal health (gums), examine
all areas of your mouth for cancer or other lesions, check your
occlusion (bite), and your TMJs. Only after a complete diagnosis
would the dentist or hygienist clean your teeth.
Another might run you in, take two bitewing X-rays, have an assistant
polish your teeth, have a dentist peek in your mouth for a couple
of minutes, and rush you out the door.
You also have the office size, location, decor, staff, and equipment
into the mix. People, computers, furnishings, hi-tech equipment,
etc. all cost lots of money.
There are offices that run from one extreme to the other. You
have to find one that matches your expected level of care with your
acceptable fee range.
Cheap prices up front can cost you a lot later on, but sometimes you
pay a fortune for fluff that you really don't need.
