Thanks for your quick response. Do you know if there is follow-up in general?
I go to the Bahamas in 3 weeks and want to make sure I am good to go. This
is a big expensive trip and I want to insure I am at my peak (well as much
as I can be).

Without complications you should feel right as rain in three weeks.

Would the dentist suggest antibiotics in most cases? The dental surgeon and
I had high hopes that after a root canal on #11 the problem would disappear
(already had RCT on 10 prior).

Probably, but this is best left up to the operating surgeon.
IOW it depends what he/she finds during the procedure.

Should I stick to soft foods...and for how long.

Avoid things like chips, and such that may inadvertently injure the site.
You want those sutures undisturbed for about 5 days.

I will ask my dentist this but just in case I appreciate your answers, as I
might be a bit preoccupied at the time of my surgery.

Have a good time in the Bahamas and avoid tropical storms.

Hi, I am getting an apicoectomy next week above tooth #10.

Did an apico on a #10 just last week.

I was curious about the general healing time for these procedures. Is it
days or weeks? I know it takes awhile for the bone to grow back (months), but
was wondering how long I should stick to soft foods.

~7 - 10 days for soft tissue healing.
Just don't lift your lip trying to see what the dentist did;
this can tear the sutures out.

I was also curious what steps I might take to assist this tooth in healing?

As outlined above. Would also suggest completely leaving the site alone
for at least 24 hours.

Warm salt water rinses, avoid brushing the area...vitamin therapy.

You can start salt water rinse after 24 hrs. Gently brush the tooth especially
at the gumline but avoid the surgical site. Vitamin C can help some,
IMO general nutrition plays a larger role in healing.

Thanks.

Just give it time.

Best wishes,

.
