VW just announced they are moving their headquarters from this area to
Virginia. There goes another 400-1000 workers. :-( 400 leave
immediately, and the rest will *most likely* leave over the next 18 months.
That will include a handful of my patients leaving this *once glorious*
State.
That is okay, though. Our State government figures they can solve the
problem by increasing taxes even more. Last weekend, I drove through Ohio,
WV, Virginia, NC, Maryland and PA. Gasoline was over 30 cents a gallon
cheaper in each of those States due to less tax. And,,,,,,,,,, they all had
*much* better roads. Our State wants to raise sales tax from 6% to 7%, add a
2% tax on entertainment, raise income taxes, create a VAT, and raise another
$1.8B to pay for a projected deficit in 2008. Can anyone imagine companies
moving to this State from elsewhere so that they could have the privilege of
paying more taxes? At the rate people are *leaving* the State, (one report
estimates 65,000 per year) one would imagine they would need fewer
government employees to manage the State. But, any cuts to spending are
immediately vetoed.
I may have to go back to placing amalgams again. (Just kidding)
