Electronic Toothbrush recommended for receding gums

I am 27 years old, had regular check-ups and cleanings pretty much
since my teen years (6-12 months on average). Teeth have been ok thus
far, but genetic wise have wear gums and lots of tarter built up (On
the other hand, only had one cavity thus far). I see that my gums
recede, and while my dentist did not indicate that it was a problem
yet, he did suggest that I don't brush hard. I am already using soft
toothbrushes. He recommended an electronic toothbrush, but I haven't
had a chance to look at the one he recommended.
For the receding gums, to prevent that besides cleaning and flossing,
which tooth brush - electronic or not would you recommend?
Thanks!
