Re: Porcelian veneer over PFM crown?

Got a recent mailing from Lumineers advocating just this application....I
agree that its much more predictable esthetically just to replace the entire
crown, this time with an all ceramic one.

Can a porcelain veneer be placed over a PFM upper anterior crown for

Thanks for information.

While theoretically you can etch porcelain in the mouth and maybe bond to
the surface, I've never seen it done. You still couldn't achieve better
translucency since the metal understructure is still there. You would
also have to build up the porcelain at the gumline or opaque it if the
margin of the PFM crown is really visible.
It would be far better to just replace the PFM crown with an all-ceramic
crown.
