Tooth #2 is crowned. Tooth #1 was removed many years ago. Many years
ago I had pain upon biting on 2 and 3, couldn't really tell but my
dentist had me get a night guard and attributed the pain to clenching.
I don't have a current night guard. I had some soreness on biting 2
weeks ago but only for a day. In the morning it was fine. Now tonight
it started again. The crown is old, probably 20 years old and the
margins of the tooth show. It does not seem sensitive to hot or cold.
Can there be a crack or fracture under the crown? It does not hurt
except when I bite or touch it, may even be the inner gum (lingual
side) which seems more tender than the outer side. Also, the back side
of the tooth seems to hurt more and the bite felt "off" 2 weeks ago
and now again. There is no swelling in the gum or apical area, no pain
when I touch it so I don't think this is an abscess. How can they see
what it is when the tooth is crowned? I was very stressed today over
something and maybe was clenching and unaware of it. Any idea what
this could be? I will make an appointment but very nervous right now.
