In honesty, it's probably happened to most of us (getting the partial
stuck, not damaging the teeth). It's a pretty unique experience, and
too bad he had to learn this lesson (one he'll remember, I assure you)
at your expense.
But it's a fairly unique situation to this procedure, and while it may
be evidence of his relative inexperience, it doesn't necessarily mean he
isn't otherwise a fine dentist.

I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he might be
afraid of me at this point. We did meet before he even looked in my
mouth so I could tell him he needed to work slowly and carefully on
me. I do think it's inexperience on his part. I don't know how to
get past being so afraid now. The dental hygienist there and the old
dentist worked on helping me conquer my fear, and we were doing so
well. I want to stay with her because she can give me shots that I
can't even feel. How do I really get it across to him that he should
be more sensitive to people? One of the things that bothered me the
most was his laughing. He said he was nervous, but he was a little
cavalier the next day when I showed him the damage. I don't have any
other problems -- no cavities, no work needing to be done. I might
just decide to sit on it for a while. I do have to go in a little
while to see him, and my eyes well up with tears at the thought. What
he has to do today shouldn't hurt at all. He said when it was stuck
in there that "we expected this to happen," and I told him that he
never told me that. Should I expect him to admit he made a mistake?
Or will that just make him think I plan to sue him -- which I don't.
If I ask the dental hygienist what his other patients think, is that a
moral issue for her to answer me honestly if she doubts his skills?
