I've had a burning gum on the top left for about a week and a half. I
have a few apthous uclers currently, but this doen't seem like an
ulcer. My entire gum for the length of about 5 teeth is inflamed,
burns a bit and I feel a movable cyst, somewhat soft, but in the soft
tissue just outside the gum area and its about half the size of a pea.
I went to see my dentist today and he wants me to try some periodex
[sp]? and come back in a week if its still there. I'm not using any
new toothpaste and I don't have periodontal disease according to the
dentist assistant. Any idea what could cause this? They said it looked
"systemic". I don't have any tooth problems to my knowledge and I
brush often.
Seems unlikely we'd be much help if the dentist who saw you doesn't
know what it is. I think it is doubtful in the extreme that Peridex
will help with the discrete soft-tissue lesion. Any way you could post
a photo?

The photo wouldn't show the bump because it isn't visible and its
barely palpable.
I don't know why the bump is there and I found another smaller bump in
the same area. Both are somewhat moveable under the soft tissue.
I'm seeing patches of red, inflamed tissue all over my gums here and
there.
This morning I might have learned why... I have been sleeping with my
mouth open, and my mouth is getting dried out (very!) like where my
tongue is cemented to the side when I wake up :-)
The reason this is happening is because I have a wisdom tooth on the
other side bothering me, The soft tissue is swollen around there where
I can't close my mouth otherwise my upper wisdom tooth starts cutting
into the swollen soft tissue on the bottom.
IS it possible that having a super dry mouth, might cause
inflammation!? I guess that's a long shot. Otherwise, can a wisdom
tooth problem on the bottom cause inflamed gums on the top!?
Ok.. failing that, what sort of systemic illnesses might cause this?
