A general or a statistician talking about generalities can keep emotion out
of discussions. When talking about individuals you know you can't do that
because much of the symptomology is heavily influenced by the person's
emotional state of mind. The patient may not realise this and that is why it
is essential not to make any assumptions or decisions about treatment or
otherwise without first discussing things with someone experienced in the
field.
 It would be tragic if your friend 'topped himself' because his pain was
uncontrolled and he thought he was dying when all he needed was Celebrex or
Tylenol (sorry , tongue in cheek from other thread)
