My dad is doing a little better. With all of the recent media attention
to lung cancer, he's very down. His scan is tomorrow (Monday). We'll
get the results on Tuesday or Wednesday. His last cycle of chemo was
Aug 3 - Aug 5 (carboplatin and etoposide, 3rd cycle of 6). He is still
very tired, a little nauseous and short of breath. He feels he's not
going to get better.
I think if the news he gets from the scan is good, he'll bounce back.
I'm hoping for a miracle. I don't know why he can't be one of the 2%
that survives or at least has lives beyond 5 years.
What's very sad about his situation, is that he was in an accident in
July 2004 when he was scanned. The physicians noted a mass in his right
lung but thought it was most likely a contusion from the accident. On
two different scans, two of the md's recommended follow up, but none
was done.
It was in April of this year that a scan that was done to look at a
blood clot (resulting from post-accident treatment) that they
"discovered" the lung mass which was by then 5x8 cm and he had 3 2-3 cm
tumors in his liver. If they had followed up last year, I bet his
prognosis would have been much better.
My dad worked very hard his whole adult life. Without the benefit of an
education, he raised 4 daughters, sent us all to college and made a
life for himself. He and my mom had just moved to Florida to enjoy
retirement. Less than a year later, he is going through all of this. I
suppose I've heard that story before. Life isn't fair!
Anyway... I'm hoping for a miracle. I wish I could hear of other people
who've been through this who've survived. I wish I could find some
miracle cure!
thanks for all your support.
