It's been quiet on news:alt.support.cancer
Click on the above, (if it's hi-lited), If you wish you could join us over there.
Chris just finished his radiation therapy and is having his peg tube removed. He
might have helpful hints for you as you go through your treatments. Clifto is
still getting his radiation treatments.
Questions about surgeries, "alternative treatments" are best asked on this
newsgroup.
If "trouble" starts again on the other newsgroup, stay out of it, or come back
here.
Contrary to email, newsgroup posts are best answered by putting your reply below
the text that you are replying to.
It's called "bottom posting". All kinds of confusion can occur with "top
posting:".
And removing some of the text in between.
Or inserting text, point by point, as I did in the other reply.
To cut down on your getting spam (software picks up email addresses from newsgroup
posts), we recommend that people munge their email address. Another good reason is
so that people don't email you at bad times, when you're perhaps not feeling well
enough to handle a bunch of emails. If somene asks if they can email you, I'll
show examples of how you can post to them. (decide on a case by case basis).
So here's the instructions on how to "munge" with Outlook Express.
In Outlook Express 6.
Click on *tools* at the top.
Down to *accounts* and click.
In the box that opens, click on *news* tab at the top.
Now click on the *properties* tab at the right.
Leave the top box alone (this needs to be the server you get your groups from for
real)
Where it says Name: type in whatever you want people to see as your name
(name or screen name).
You will also see where it says Email :
type here whatever you want people to see as your address.
Examples: The part before the @ can be anything you wish.
noname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
nospam@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
sunny2 @privacy.net
jellybelly@xxxxxxxxx
john4@xxxxxxxxxxxx
heart4u@xxxxxxxx
mypuppy@xxxxxxxxxxx
nancy@xxxxxxxxx
or your real email address but the first part is munged
Examples (and this can also be what you post if someone asks for your email
address):
mydogrealdognamedog@xxxxxxxxxxx (to email, take the "dog" out.
my123real456name987@xxxxxxxxxxx ( to email, take the numbers out.
The part after @ should NOT be a valid website unless you own the website
or have permission from them.
Do not change the tab at the top that says "server".
This is just seen in your computer to get the newsgroups to pull in.
Click at the bottom *apply* and then "ok" to close the box.
Go ahead and close out all boxes that are still open.
As long as you clicked the "apply" button before "ok", your changes are
held.
If you later upgrade your software (or reinstall), you should recheck to
make sure you are still anonymous - ie follow the instructions above.
So save these instructions./end munging instructions.
If you'd rather stay here, that's fine too.
There's a number of persons, including me, who watch both newsgroups for posts
like yours.
Glad you're wife is helping you out by researching.
Best,
J
