Why should it be unfathomable?
Cancer cells grow faster than normal cells so its quite plausible.
Squamous cancer comes in all 'speeds' (differentiation).
If its recurred I guess they'll go for the chop this time.
If its an important finger ask about radiation.
Get a thorough checkup, shingles is a sign of a weakened immune system.
Chest x-ray, ultrasound of the armpit on that arm, blood tests.
