About five year survival rates and cancer cure

I have a discussion as to how five year survival rates are an adequate
approximation of permanent cure rates for some cancers, such as colon
cancer, but not for breast cancer, melanoma, and many others, here ---

I agree that even some sceptics and a rare ill-informed medico will claim
that five year survival means cure, but it is mainly journalists, lay
persons, and especially alternative propagandists that spread this
overgeneralisation. The newspapers are among the worst offenders.
