Business First of Columbus - 12:19 PM EST Thursday
Dr. James P. Thomas, a recruit from the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
has been formally named medical director for clinical trials at Ohio State
University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Thomas, 45, succeeds John Byrd, a physician and researcher who is remains
with the cancer center.
"With the growth of the clinical trials office, it was decided to make the
director role more of a full-time position," said Dr. Michael Caligiuri,
deputy director of the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J.
Solove Research Institute.
Thomas' focus is on cancer drug development and gastrointestinal oncology.
At Ohio State he will oversee the development and implementation of
clinical trials.
Dr. William Carson, associate director for clinical research, served as
interim director for the clinical trials office. Thomas has been in the
position since early fall but his Ohio medical license credentials came
through Wednesday, said Eileen Scahill, medical center communications
director.
