So what DOES NOT get met with jeers, hostility, and criticism here?
Black salve perhaps? COQ10? Apricot seeds?

Apricot seeds (laetrile) are unconventional therapy.
hyperthermia is experimental and investigational

All fine, but keep them in the ALT groups please...

How about chemo?
conventional medicine, belongs in a sci.med group. Easy huh?

[..]
<http://groups.google.com/group/sci.med.diseases.cancer/msg/7b0ce06980f8>

The purpose of sci.med.diseases.cancer is discussions of the treatment and
diagnosis of all forms of cancer. Sci.med.diseases.cancer is a forum for
cancer patients, their families and loved ones, medical professionals and
cancer researchers. Discussions of unconventional therapies are explicitly
allowed

[.Sorry - I should not have said "reverse".].. Appropriate topics are
clearly listed in the charter
BTW:
* Diagnosis of cancer
* Treatment of cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy,
radiation, and immunotherapy
* Screening and detection of cancer.
* Prevention of cancer
* Nutritional aspects of cancer treatment and prevention
* Causes of cancer
* Experimental treatments
* Psychosocial aspects of cancer

RATIONALE

There are existing groups were the diagnosis and treatment of cancer is
discussed (sci.med and alt.support.cancer). alt.support.cancer suffers from
the usual drawbacks of groups in the alt hierarchy,
including not being distributed as widely. There is no place specifically
devoted to discussions on the medical aspects of cancer.

Anyway, the guy that wrote the charter (med physicist?) seems to have
forgotten there are alt groups there for alt therapies, perhaps they
werent there in 1994?

alt.support.cancer was created in 1992
The above passed.
There were 210 YES votes and 11 NO votes, for a total of 221 valid votes.
There was 1 abstain and 8 invalid ballots.

He was also unhappy at the way the group was going (Bewelkel and other
altis) and wanted it moderated in 1998...

Never went anywhere.

The way I see it, physicians are best at countering alternative medicine
(unconventional therapies) claims.

alt.support.cancer's Charter says:
If it's more about medicine, post to sci.med.diseases.cancer (so I've been
posting about medicines and clinical trials here, unless specifically asked
about on alt.support.cancer)
Making outrageous or unsupported claims is prohibited.
Advocating treatments that have been disproven scientifically or have not
successfully completed all phases of a clinical trial is inappropriate.
Encouraging patients to stop or avoid conventional proven cancer treatment in
favor of unconventional and unproven treatment is inappropriate.

I refer people here if they want to read about medicines.
I refer people here if they want to ask you about, for instance liver mets.
I refer people here if they want to ask radiation therapy questions.
And I refer people here to see discussions about unconventional ad/or
experimental and/or investigational treatments.
