Re: NEED help with colon cancer issue.

CEA had bgn rising from 2.5 to 12 overa two month period. They added
avastin to my foldox/oxi regime and it backed off to 8.50 last month.
They checked it again today but won't have results till next week. I've
been having some very unpleasant side effects from the avastin but if
it's knocking the CEA down I guess I'll keep plugging. I've never had
the CA-19 checked. how does that stack up against the CEA for
reliability.

Stage 4 colon cancer mucusal and signet ring cell with mets to omentum
and peritonium , diagnosed 12/22/05, debulked 12/23/05 started folfox7
chemo w/oxiliplatin 1/14/06.

In the past 6 months I've had a CAT scan, a PET scan and now an MRI all
f the pelvis. All 3 scans say there is diffuse lighting up in the
sigmoid and that there is derviticula there, though not appearing to be
inflamed, which may or may not be causing it to light up. and that there
is focal activity (pet scan) or suspicious nodular enhancement (MRI) in
the rectal sigmoid junction. The latest of these scans (MRI) was just
this past monday. I had a colonoscopy today and he says the colon is
clean as a whistle no dervticula, polups, nothing. I got 3 different
types of scans that all say derviticula is there yet colonoscopy doc
says nothing there. How can this be????
Diverticula with narrow connections to the colon may go unnoticed in the
colonoscopy, particularly if the gut has been suboptimally cleaned. BUt
this just a radiology take on these results, dont know if a
gastroenterologist or surgeon can explain the discrepancy. Are your CEA
and CA 19.9 markers going up?
