What information have I witheld J? What would you like to know? I'm
stage 4 colon cancer, main mass on right acsending colon was mucusonal.
I had signet ring cells spreading to peritonium and omentum, both of
which were removed during debulking surgery. CEA pre op was 92, post op
45, 30 & 60 days out from surgery CEA was 2.5 . started chemo on 1/06
every two weeks with folfox (5FU, leucovorin & oxilipatin). Tolerated
chemo relatively well with few problems. All scans until now have shown
nothing significant or concrete. the One and only PET scan done early
into chemo (about 3rd or 4th month) was inconclusive. everything that
lit up was investigated and explained non cancer except for a lot of
dots in upper abdomen and on top of liver. Onc says it most likely is
seeding of the signet cells, radiologist says prolly scar tissue from
debulking so who knows. CEA started rising 3rd & 4th month topped off at
12 when avastin was added in 4th month it knocked it back down to 5.9
but my liver numbers ALT, LFT were high. Then the liver serum and GGT
started soaring into the 300s. Did liver ultrasound and all it showed
was a textured or bumpy liver surface so they said liver numbers were
prolly chemo toxicity. Then I had to go off chemo for 5 weeks due to a
rectal abcess surgery. when I came back to go back on chemo after 5
weeks white cells were very low, took neulasta, then plattlets were very
low, took neumega. They did bone scan which came back OK, decided to
dose reduce my chemo by 20% due to high liver numbers and blood level
issues. since then CEA has been climbing at a rate of one point every
month. I had two rounds of dose reduced chemo and have had to go off
again 30 days due to low plattlets (60s). Plattlets are fine now over
100 but onc won't do chemo Now because latest cat scan says some sort of
suspicious thickening at the colon stump or resection site. They say it
looks like recurrance and she is firing me as of oct. 7th. CEA as of
last week was 8.1 Onc who is firing me freaked and went from being dead
set against any surgery to now she wants another colonoscopy done (just
had one in july that said all clear) she wants him to get biopsies via
colonoscopy or endoscopy and if cancer is found open me up and take it
out. This is the same onc that told me 3 moths ago that if I had a
recurrance she'd be against surgery because I was stage 4 and it would
be a waste of time because it would just pop up somewhere else and I'd
have to be off chemo for too long before and after surgery which would
be detrimental to chemo. This onc doesn't know what the heck she wants.
I have a new onc
scheduled for first office visit oct. 9th.
So that's about everything I can think of up to now, what else do you
want to know?
Hi John,
Thanks for the update and clarifications.
It's good to hear that you've found a new onc.
Hopefully you'll get clear guidance on what you should or should not do, for
your particular situation.
Hang in there, only 4 more days.
Keep in touch and let us know how it's going.
J
