Throat Cancer sufferer
I am suffering from the after-effects of 7 weeks of Radio Therapy and 3
weeks of chemo therapy. It is now more than 6 month since a PEG tube
was put into my stomach and I can't eat nor drink anyting to day. I
like to know how persons, I am 75 years old, have fared with the same
disease and similar treatment.
I have the same experience. Started treatment in the middle of April.
My mouth is always dry, I think the Radio Therapy has destroyed my
saliva glands in the front of the mouth I can't swallow thin stuff. I
can eat soup put through a vitamiser and thickened with a 1/4-1/2
teaspoon of gum and very soft boiled eggs ,but I have to
clean my mouth immediately after eating to clear the throat and the
back of the mouth from food rests; Swallowing the food is painful. It
is the same with liquids, I can drink water which has been thickened
with gum powder, but I can't drink anything which is as viscous as
normal water or wine, as the flap which guard the trachia,(
eppiglottis)is half gone, again through Radio Therapy. I wonder, if it
will ever grow back and allow me to drink normally. the smallest sip of
wine hurts terrible at the back of the throat, and wont go down the
Oesophagus; neither does beer or any other kind of alcoholic beverage.
