"I think the bottom line would be: don't treat with radiation, surgery or
chemotherapy unless there is a well-defined benefit supported by evidence.
Often the best treatment is NO treatment."
Unfortunately asking where you can get an intelligent opinion about whether
YOUR cancer is best served by NOT having radiation and or chemo is like
asking the question : "Who will put the bell on the cat ?."
If you go to a scientific allopathic oncologist (let's skip the question for
now if there is any other kind of oncologist), you are going to be entering
a "zone" of medical practice in which "NO treatment" is not an option.
And, imho, if you go outside scientific allopathic medicine to alternative
therapies, you are entering a "zone" full of quacks, exploiters of human
weakness and desperation, or, at best (?), people who have "jumped ship"
from standard medical practice and gone off on their own vision quests (Dr.
Simonici ?).
I regard myself as an intelligent "layperson," or "consumer," in the field
of cancer treatment and research (narrowly focused in the area of my
particular tumor and its type), but I know I don't have the capability to
wade through acres of research to find out the statistical parameters of
whether my cancer might be best served by not following the fairly standard
treatments of radiation and chemo.
How I wish I did see some alternatives out there !
regards, Uncle Sally
