Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late January 2008, and has
been undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments at the Stanford
University Medical Center.[6][dead link][7][dead link] A March 5, 2008
Reuters article reports that Swayze "has a very limited amount of disease,
and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far".[8] Swayze's
doctor has confirmed the actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer,
but insists he's not as close to death as reports suggest. Specifically,
Swayze was diagnosed with a type of pancreatic tumor called Intraductal
Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm (IPMN).
In early May 2008, it was widely reported in a number of tabloids that
Swayze had undergone surgery to remove part of his stomach after the
spread of the cancer, and that he had rewritten his will, transferring his
property to his wife.[9][10] In a statement made on May 28, Swayze said
that he continues to respond well to treatment at Stanford University
Medical Center. In late May, he was seen at a Los Angeles Lakers
basketball game, his first public appearance since his diagnosis in
2008.[11]
In late July 2008, six months after allegedly being given just weeks to
live by medical experts,

Swayze, 56, first became worried about his health last December when he
had persistent indigestion and was feeling ill on a regular basis.
"After that all of a sudden real symptoms started showing up. You see it
in the mirror and you go, 'Okay better go get checked out,'" he explained
to the New York Times newspaper.
While the veteran actor, who has been undergoing pioneering Cyberknife
radiotherapy at California's Stamford University Medical Centre, is making
a remarkable recovery from the illness, doctors cannot yet say he is
completely free of the cancer. When he was originally diagnosed with
deadly disease, Swayze was reportedly given just weeks to live

Adenocarcinomas
his is the form of cancer that most people are talking about when they
refer to "cancer of the pancreas." These tumors account for 75% of all
pancreas cancers.
Microscopically, adenocarcinomas form glands (collections of cells
surrounding an empty space.) These tumors can grow large enough to invade
nerves which can cause back pain. They also frequently spread
(metastasize) to the liver or lymph nodes. If this happens the tumor may
be considered unresectable.
The following rare non-endocrine tumors are listed alphabetically.
Excerpts
Intraductal Papillary-Mucinous Neoplasms
These rare but very distinctive tumors were first described in Japan in
the 1980's. The tumors characteristically grow along the ducts of the
pancreas that drain the pancreatic fluid into the small intestine.
Microscopically, they usually appear as finger-like projections (papillae)
into the duct. Some of these tumors are benign and some are malignant
(cancerous).
