Horrible Ambiguity

I believe I have had hcv since 1981 (transfusion) and recently got a
viral load test stating that my viral load is in the "lower limit of
detection" of 10-50 IU/mL. What is odd about this, is that I am not
on treatment and never have had treatment. My tests are all fairly
normal except occasionally low platelets (which are currently normal),
and slightly elevated AST and ALT (1.5 X elevated). I was told by my
doctor that I have type 1, but that it could not be sub-typed further.
My question for anyone who can help me is: I have heard from my
gastroenterologist, and others, that the lowest viral load would be in
the hundreds of thousands (pre-treatment). Why would mine be so low?
Could this low viral load, in addition to the inability to subtype,
mean that I don't really have hcv? (I have had a positive PCR test,
but I understand that even these can be false). My main symptom is
fatigue and, within the last year, sore joints. My mother had hcv as
well; no idea where she contracted it - she died over 10 years ago of
lung cancer. Thank you for your kind assistance:) Azure.
