DANVILLE - A Danville woman was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court on a
felony charge of defrauding the Social Security Disability Insurance Program of
close to $50,000.
Mary D. Doyon, 41, had pleaded guilty to the charge of theft of government
funds from July 1998 to January 2003. Judge Joseph DiClerico sentenced Doyon to
six months home confinement and three years of probation. He also ordered her
to pay full restitution for the amount of money she unlawfully received from
the Social Security Administration.
The SSDI program is a federallyfunded program that provides benefits to those
unable to work because of physical or psychological disability. At the time
Doyon was collecting disability benefits, she was employed by the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts.
"Anyone who defrauds the Social Security Administration is committing a serious
crime," U.S. Attorney Tom Colantuono said in a written statement Monday. "This
is a crime which simply doesn’t pay."
The case was investigated by the Office of Inspector General for the SSA and
prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Irish.
