Hi Mike,

No not at all. Firstly, I am not a Medical Dr.
But I wanted to take you very seriously. Apparently, up till now, the
medical profession has not taken your complaints very seriously. You suffer
from chronic (several months is chronic), apparently serious, headaches.

Headaches that last for months and interfere with your work are not "just
stress".
It is my personal belief that this is not mese, simple "stress".
"Stress" hass been blamed for too many *real* diseases and illnesses, and it
is important to see reality in the eyes for oneself, otherwise one will
"explain away" the first serious symptoms of the disease one *might* have.

For example, I had spots on the palms of my hands and I thought it was a
laundry detergent allergy. I had inflamed knuckles and I thought I had
inherited "weak tendons" from my mother. I was tired and I thought: "This is
old age". But then it kept progressing until I almost died. If I would have
not kept finding excuses, I would have had a better chance.

Well, again I wanted to take you seriously. I suspect you have a disease
(_perhaps_ Lyme). I take medication and I am getting better with my
headaches. That is a fact. You have headaches and you do not get
medications. If it is Lyme, you will deteriorate slowly. My hint to you was
that you should take your headaches as seriously as I take your headaches or
as a doctor should take them seriously, and do not "stare yourself blind" on
stress as a causative factor.

> what kind of virus? can a non-harmful virus cause all this for

Hm. Any virus that can cause a chronic infection that causes a headache is
_potentially_ (theoretically) dangerous. Depending on immune status etc. I
do not believe a virus causes such a long problem with the bloodvessels in
the brain or the brain/CNS itself. But I am not a doctor. I merely try to
evaluate all possibilities. A virus is preferrable to a bacterium. There is
nothing that helps much against virii, really, but usually viral diseases
are self-limiting, if you survive the initial (short) onset of the disease.

So if it's a virus I think you will live :)
But is it a virus?

Do you think it's stress?
Go back to when those headaches started.
Any onset of stress at the same time (not as a _consequence_ but as a
_cause_)?

Stress does NOT cause month-long headaches.
People who have seen their entire family slaughtered or people who live in a
war-torn area do usually not suffer headaches either. The human body is
perfectly capable of handling stress w/o getting a headache. But, stress
compromises the immune system.

>> OK, this is a neurological problem, that's for sure.

I have to correct myself.
It could very well be a problem with the blood flow to a part of the brain.

> please explain to me what the difference of being virus related or
> bacterium related.

A virus is 1000 times smaller than a bacterium, can't reproduce itself but
needs your cells to produce copies of itself. Antibiotics do not work
against a virus, but the immune system works better against a virus than
against a bacterium.

When you have a months-long headache that interferes with your job (software
developer) and you are so hampered by it that you post here, I would not
ignore it, no.

Are you under a lot of stress?
Have you earlier developed headaches as a result of stress?

No. I say you should investigate your condition further because you might
have an illness or a disease.
Headaches are potentially serious symptoms.

> are you saying i'm surely infected by
> something serious? please explain before i get more stressed.

No, but I think there is quite a chance that you suffer from an infection,
seen the fever at the onset of the symptoms.

> i do appreciate you taking the time to respond, but you've really

Well, you come to the Lyme-newsgroup (Lyme is pretty much incurable an many
people die of it).
Nost people here are/were extremely ill and will commit suicide over
experiencing it again.
Many of us ignored our symptoms for YEARS before we could not any longer.
I think that when you are clever enough to post here, you should also be
strong and face the *possibility* that you might have a serious affliction
and you should pursue matters further, especially when things get worse.

Unfortunately, the reality is that MD's are woefully inadequate to
diagnose/treat chronic infectious diseases. (Except in "poorer" countries,
where MD's don't earn much money they choose the profession for their love
of the job and the patients)

I hope that you will do everything in your power to get to the bottom of
this.
Because even if there is a 5% chance that you indeed have Lyme, then your
life will be utterly ruined forever when you do not seek treatment at this
stage. That's all. Yes I say it like it is. Take your headaches seriously,
especially because they appeared after a fever and because they are so bad
that they interfere with your work. It sounds like a chronic CNS infection.
Please keep us up-to-date over the coming years so we can see what it turned
out to be.

Don't worry.
If it's an infection, it can be reversed with cheap, pretty harmless
medicines.

Very often, no.
