This conversation seems to be going round in circles. I have already
answered this question - see a few posts back. The explanation is that
people hoped by a tremendous outpouring of popular support for the
reform to change his mind from the position they thought he was
leaning. Some people are grateful for the opportunity. Not you,
obviously. If you didn't even go to the trouble of calling or writing,
why not just let the people who did and who feel their "chains were
yanked" complain?
