(I will keep this short)...some of my best friends are "red state"
people.
I have some friends...who will jump down your throat at the least
suggestion of a comment that they feel is derogatory to blacks, Jews,
homosexuals, etc...but feel it perfectly acceptable to talk about
"trailer trash", rednecks, whitetrash...blah, blah...etc, etc.
It's a form of bigotry and chauvinism.
And...not many know this, but the term "redneck" actually derives from
religious dissenters...Protestants from lowland Scotland...the
"redneck" from the rope burns when they were hanged for their beliefs
by the Crown...and Chiurch.
The pre-revolution American south was settled by these people in large
numbers...so its actual original meaning was as an ETHNIC term.
No, Weisman, certainly you should do and say as you please...I just
think you have great ability...actually, and this detracts from others
noticing that, substantially.
In my opinion.
