I'm new here too - and from Canada. I think I'll probably go back up
and properly introduce myself in a different thread. However, I have
met Areneli on another board and know HIM to be legit. These things I
know to be true: - he is legitimately writing to us in a language that
is not his mother tongue, he legitimately comes from another culture,
and I think he legitimately deserves a break. I sure as heck couldn't
post at the level of complexity he does in ANY other language. Speaking
from my own experience: I speak a bit of Spanish and have inadvertently
given offense at times because I didn't understand the niceties, or the
proper greetings, and so came across as overly blunt, and rushed
headlong into questions long before it was appropriate to do so in that
culture. I also stumbled into taboo topics, again, because I was
operating outside my own culture, mores and folkways.
I do know that Areneli wants to get better just as much as I do, and
that he lives in a province where he has had a horrible time getting
medical help or credibility. (Areneli I hope you don't mind my offering
up this info about you, but I wanted to try to put things into context,
if I could.)
I hope this helps to reduce the anxiety about Areneli a little.
I think he needs you. I know that I do! I have been lurking for awhile
and also had trouble getting onto the board, but every day I open it up
and someone is asking the very question I needed an answer to. It's
wonderful and I thank you so much for being here.

I don't know if Areneli is a troll or not.
I am concerned that the troll accusations can have a chilling effect on
new comers.

I couple of weeks ago, I asked a question about something, and only got
a couple of responses. I soon found myself thinking what if they all
think that I am a troll and are ignoring me. I KNOW that that I am
being paranoid. It is the lyme, and not really me. I never used to be a
paranoid person.

I don't know what the answer is to finding the right balance between
being welcoming and open the new comers, including the more strange
ones, and how to protect ourselves against trolls and other hurtful
people.

Not to be paraniod, but how do we know that you and Areneli are not the
same space alien?

Jane it hadn't occured to me, but I can believe what you say about the
culture clash.

It explains a lot!

I'm a foreigner myself in the US, where most of the Lymies are from.
But I have come to know the rednecks well after having lived here for
20 years...

Dispair not, either of you, they'll warm up to you.

In my experience, americans are no different than many other cultures.
There will always be people in any culture who condemn and reject those
who do not follow the protocols they do and who are not as polished as
they are and who do not behave like they do.

It's always wise to try to understand where people might be coming
from.

If Areneli is indeed trying to self treat himself, it's understanding
that his questioning is all over the place and that he has a tendency
to not answer other peoples questions?

Desperate people are not easily embrassed.

Whatever the case is with Areneli, I personally feel there's no
foundation for accusing him of belonging to Camp A or being a troll.

Any doubt about Areneli should come to his benefit.

He's got every right to ask any question he likes.

Considering that this entire thread is over in Google, and the person
posting it appears to me to be Areneli, I would have to say that I
totally disagree with you Jane that it is not a language problem.
The only language problem he has is the dirt that spews from his mouth.
While he might have something valuable to say it gets lost in his total
lack of respect he has for anyone but himself.

I am sure after this post I will once again be a topic posted by him on
the other board, but I don't care. To all the rest of you recognize
that he is reposting entire threads over there and along with a group
of others mocking us.

I do not get into arguments, unless it is with some arrogant idiot, the
CDC, the medical establishment, the insurance industry, ducks, quacks,
politicians, etc. etc. Trolls, whatever that is, seem to me to be an
interesting speciman of humanity that could hardly be worse that the
critters out there in the real world.
I have noticed, except for one incident in which I was having a really
bad week end and went into a towering lyme rage, a splitting lyme head
ache is no fun-a big mistake in retrospect-that people ignore me. I am
hurt. Nobody is attacking me. Why. After all if they can attack the
Most Noble Tincup, they could at least hurl a few brick bats my way.
Look at all the good she has done. Okay, Okay, I admit, I have done no
good for anybody-but still you could at least pretend. I would not feel
so unloved, unwanted and unappreciated, I am very sensitive you know.
As I tell people, I insult my friends, why waste a good insult on your
enemies. They are too stupid to appreciate it.

As for these Canadians, well I have been in Halifax this past week and
I just fell in love with Canadians and Canada. I am sure they have
their quote of rectal orifices, jerks, idiots, dumb bells and baboons.
But on the whole they are lovely people and it is a lovely country. And
it was freezing cold there. I was walking around in -, yes that is
minus, -11 below zero in Farenheit. But then they have hot tea, lots of
it, hot soups and layers, yes layers of clothes. They also have the
Queen. Fervent monachist that I am it was almost like going to the
Vatican or Jerusalem. They even have her portrait on the money. I was
so frozen-me from SC- I was blissed out.

As for our not very fluent in English friend-let him ask me all the
questions he wants. The answers would bore him beyond words. "How much
money do you have?" You are kidding, you must mean how little. I live a
life of genteel desperation. "Tell me about your doctors." How many
weeks have you got? "What are your symptoms?" How strong is you
stomach. Lyme is not for the squemisch. "Describe your general
condition on a day to day basis with medications" I am an ugly beyond
words, broken down wreck, a sardonic ruin of a former academic who is
positively revolting. You really want to see me in a bathing suit? As
for medications how many pages can your computer print out?

So instead of everybody getting into an uproar maybe a little
humour-notice the correct spelling-an extra dose of our unusual
kindness and patience and we can all feel a little better. After all we
are all paranoid here. I was so angry at one point that it was all I
could do to keep from ramming my car into a cement mixer in down town
traffic. Not a good idea, not a good idea at all. Cheeers. Thomas

Some people, particularly scientific/researcher/geeky types make
decisions by gathering lots of data and then applying some sort of
formula to it.
Trouble arises when they don't know the formula to solve the problem
they are dealing with. In this case they tend to keep gathering
information even though they don't quite know what to do with it.

I think Areneli may fit this pattern. He/she had irked me on occasion
but I have also come to his/ her defense. I think Areneli's questions
are interesting and thought provoking.

As others have said, answering questions here is optional so don't
answer any question you are uncomfortable with. Tincup's warning is a
good one though. Anyone can view this site so be careful about
divulging too much personal information.

Hey Areneli, to make writing easier could you tell us if you are a he
or a she. Here I'll go first; I'm a she.

We are presumably all here to recover from Lyme and help others with
Lyme. Could we consider ourselves one big group of people (and
martians) with Lyme and cut the generalizing about "you Americans" or
"you Canadians" or any other references to nationality ethnicity etc
when we are discussing our personal experience with this disease.

IMO the only time nationality, political leanings etc. should come into
play here is when we are discussing the medical "system" or the
politics of Lyme, not our individual medical situations.

Oh and here is the apparent genesis of the paranoia thread--"tincup"

The very idea that the LymeNUTTERS think that doctors or insurance
companies bother to read that black hole of medical information
(collection of utter nonsense) is so ridiculous--one time someone
posted asking if people from Harvard would respond? LOL

They really think they matter that much to anyone?

But the sad thing is that they don't.

And the ridiculous idea that there are posters paid to be provocateurs
by insurance companies or "the steere camp" well it all comes from a

None of these people is enough of a threat to anyone or anything to
worry about and that is the sad truth that none of them can deal with.
I guess it is better from their standpoint to think themselves

It is VERY obvious, after going to that google link, that there are
people out there coming onto Lymenet for ALL the wrong reasons.
So, I have had to change my profile.

I was thinking about not having any email address available but, then
again, I would hate for someone to have something important to email me
about and not have my email.

This weisman (as well as a few others) or what ever he/she/it is seems
to appear a lot on the newsgroup. I have looked at sci,med... a few
times but since the thing appears not to be moderated you get a few
foul mouthed people, who obviously have a significantly over inflated
image of themselves and their knowledge. Hey I am sure that I know more
foul language than they do (5 languages worth) but to write it down is
totally uncalled for, EVER. Some things are ears only.
Perhaps we should have some sympathy for these people, If they are
truly infected, the infection is well know to cause this type of
behaviour. They are clearly dillusional in that they even believe you
can "scare" people off via a text messaging system ??????????? I am
sure there is a term for this condition... but I have no idea what it
is. As far as scaing people...People just get fed up with stupidity and
just leave, thats all there is to it.

If some people prefer to eat their lunch in the middle of a manure
pile, the more power to them. If they want to copy posts from here to
another forum because they are incapable of writing anything equally
intellgent or genuine themselves there is not much that can be done
about it

...and more importantly we should not Care...

What is the harm? At some point the google search engines will parse
out all the forum contents anyway... for the entire world to see just
by typing a few words and it is a lot easier to find than reading pages
and pages of foul mouthed trash.

As far the the induviduals that enjoy copying text from one window to
the other I venture to say that this is good therapy that involves
exercising several parts of diseased the brain. Hopefully this type of
exercise staves off or at least delays at least some of the insidious
decay of the brains function.

Oh yes... and Thomas I purposely included numerous spelling and grammar
mistakes in this text to bring it down to your level.

And finally, BECAREFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT CANADIANS, THEY ARE ALL
PARTNERS WITH THE ALIENS IN EXCHANGE FOR NOT BEING EXPOSED TO INFECTION
AND EVENTUIALLY GETTING JOBS WORKING AT THE BURGER QUEENS. WHY ELSE DO
THINK THAT THERE IS NO LYME IN CANADA.

month's ago.when jill mentioned his last name (weissman) (sp)..i
remembered him.
i have some stored letter's from other folk's there,warning me of him
and some other s.s storm trooper's..

they are just trying to disrupt lyme info.give you false info.i believe
they are paid to do so.
