Actually, thru the 90's, especialy after Steere's 93 article on
overdiagnosis, doctor's here relied on seriology--mostly ELISA,
but if you got a Western Blot, it had to be Dearborne positive, except
for a very few LLD's who would treat as few as two bands. My personal
belief is that the 93 article killed the "clinical diagnosis" paradigm,
and doctors covered their asses by using Dearborne seriology criteria,
which left lots of people untreated. Essentially, medicine on Cape Cod
was dismisive of Lyme unless
they saw the Bullseye and swollen knees.
